Articulate and Lights, Camera, Action.

Yesterday we were particularly focused in our grammar lesson. We revised determiners and subjects and objects of a sentence. Following this, we split into 3 teams to play articulate with all the year 6 grammatical terms. Mrs Wren was very impressed with our SPAG knowledge.

In the afternoon we started our new topic Lights, Camera, Action which will be based on light and electricity. We discussed what we might like to find out and came up with some suitable questions to start the topic. We also designed our topic front covers.

Year 5 and 6 Inter-House Handball

This afternoon there was great team spirit in the air as we took part in the inter-house handball competition. Year 6 house captains managed their teams and could choose 6 players at a time to play on the court. Each match was 5 minutes each way. Throughout all of the matches, fantastic skills and teamwork were demonstrated. Mrs Wren was very impressed with the way in which everyone participated. Mercury emerged as winners for the Year 5 and 6 competition. These scores will be added together to the year 3/4 handball results and the year 1/2 dodgeball competition, meaning the house cup will be awarded in assembly tomorrow.

Broadening our vocabulary…

At the beginning of our English lesson today we had to skim read a page from our reading book and pick a word that we didn’t know the meaning of. After that, we used dictionaries to find the definition, found out the word type, used the word in a higher level sentence and thought of synonyms and antonyms. We all now know 20 new words which we hope to use in our own writing.

Netball County Final

Yesterday 9 representatives from Year 5 and 6 headed to the Netball county final in Chippenham. Despite a nervous start, we improved our play throughout the games and eventually enjoyed a win against Larkhill. We all really enjoyed the opportunity to play netball at this level and learnt lots from the experience!
